Back to Jail Talk

Safety Center

Jail Talk is for adults 18 and over. Most people here are exactly who they say they are — but a few are not. Read this before you get close to someone new.

Never send money to someone you met here

  • No legitimate member will ask you for gift cards, crypto, wire transfers or your bank login.
  • Be suspicious of any story that needs money urgently — a fee to get released, a fine, a sick relative, a lawyer's retainer.
  • Be suspicious of anyone who moves the conversation off Jail Talk quickly, then asks for money.
  • Fund commissary only through the facility's own official provider, never through a person.

What not to share

  • Your home address, your workplace, your children's school, or photos that show them.
  • Your bank details, card numbers, Social Security number, or passwords.
  • Legal documents or case paperwork for anyone but yourself.
  • Anything you would not want screenshotted. Assume anything you send can be saved.

Spotting a fake or scam profile

  • Photos that look like a stock image or a model, or that don't match the story.
  • Instant declarations of love, or pressure to move fast.
  • Claims to be an attorney, agent or organization with no verified badge on the listing.
  • Refusal to answer basic questions, or answers that keep changing.

Harassment — you're allowed to just stop

  • You never owe anyone a reply, a photo, or an explanation.
  • Block ends it: they can't message you or interact with you afterwards.
  • If someone makes a new account to get around a block, report it — ban evasion is grounds for permanent removal.
  • Unwanted sexual messages are a rule violation. Report them; don't argue.

How to block and report

  • Open the menu on a profile, post, comment or conversation and choose Block or Report.
  • Reports go to our moderation team; a person reviews every one.
  • Child-safety reports, threats and anything about someone's immediate safety are handled first.
  • You can also email jailtalkconnections@gmail.com any time.

If someone is in danger right now

  • Call 911 in the United States if there is an immediate risk to life.
  • 988 reaches the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, by call or text.
  • Our crisis resources page lists more hotlines for domestic violence, mental health and reentry.
