These guidelines explain how government and law enforcement agencies may request information about Jail Talk accounts, and how we respond.
1. How to submit a request
Send requests from an official government email address to jailtalkconnections@gmail.com with the subject line "Law Enforcement Request". Include the agency name, officer name and badge number, a callback number, the account username or profile link, and the legal process attached.
2. Legal process required
- Basic subscriber information: a valid subpoena or equivalent legal process.
- Message content and other stored content: a valid search warrant.
- We review every request for legal validity and may narrow or reject requests that are overbroad.
3. Emergency requests
If there is an imminent risk of death or serious physical injury (including suspected human trafficking or child exploitation), mark the email "EMERGENCY". We may disclose information without legal process where the law allows.
4. Preservation
We will preserve records for 90 days on receipt of an official preservation request while legal process is obtained.
5. Proactive reporting
We report child sexual exploitation to NCMEC and cooperate with authorities on human trafficking, threats of violence, and fraud.
6. User notice
We may notify users of requests for their information unless prohibited by law or a court order, or where notice would create a risk of harm.
